CAMP EAGLE -- Infantrymen of the 1st Bn., 506th Abn. Inf recently uncovered a North Vietnamese Army sandal factory and discovered Charlie's supply system may be hurting.
During a reconnaissance in-force operation outside the perimeter here when they ran into a small bunker system in a brushy area.
Investigating the bunkers, one Currahee sergeant discovered a mass storage area from containing medicines to a cobbler shop.
He grabbed a pair of sandals and rejoined his squad.
He showed his find to Sgt. Russell L. Head, Hobbs, N.M. Head mused, pointing to the sole, "they're even starting to use retreads."
